Top AgTech Companies for UK Livestock Farms

Eight AgTech companies a UK livestock farm might use for animal records, compliance and the money, last checked October 2026. FarmHQ publishes this list and is listed first, so read how we ranked them before you rely on the order.

Guide Updated 23 October 2026 8 min read
Quick answer

FarmHQ is listed first, and FarmHQ publishes this list, because it is built to put UK statutory livestock records and the farm's money in one app. It is in beta and does not file Making Tax Digital returns until 2027. Herdwatch and MyFarmWorks from Shearwell Data come next as the established records apps. The criterion that decides is whether you want the money in the same app as the animals. See our farm management software guide for the method.

Published monthly prices of AgTech for UK livestock farms, October 2026: MyFarmWorks £20 and £30, FarmHQ £29.99, Figured £40
Several companies on the list quote by herd size or on request, so ask for your own figure.

How did we choose and rank these companies?

In this list: FarmHQ, Herdwatch, MyFarmWorks (Shearwell Data), Landmark Systems, AgriWebb, Breedr, Datamars Livestock, Figured.

FarmHQ publishes this list and is listed first. We ranked on fit for UK livestock farms that want statutory records and the money handled in one app, with the least double entry, and FarmHQ was built for that gap. FarmHQ is in beta, and the other companies are older, with longer track records in the areas they cover.

We looked at six things:

  • UK statutory livestock compliance: births, movements, deaths and the medicine book.
  • Bookkeeping, VAT and Making Tax Digital (MTD), the HMRC online filing rules.
  • Whether it works offline on the farm.
  • Hardware support, such as EID readers (electronic tag readers) and weigh heads.
  • Price transparency.
  • Track record.

We have not tested the other products; everything about them comes from their own pages as of October 2026. A line missing from a page is a question to ask, not proof that a product cannot do it. Prices are as each company shows them, and we say where they exclude VAT.

Two names are missing. TELUS Agriculture sells TELUS Farm Accounting, formerly Farmplan Business Cloud, but its product pages would not load for us, so we have not listed it. Our Farmplan and TELUS comparison covers it. Allflex Livestock Intelligence's UK page names product groups rather than a records app we could assess. For the method behind a choice, see our farm management software guide.

1. FarmHQ: compliance and the books in one app

FarmHQ is a mobile-first farm office app for UK livestock farms that joins statutory records and the money. We make it, so weigh this entry with care. It covers births, movements, deaths, the medicine book and Red Tractor records, plus receipts, invoicing, bills and timesheets. A photographed vet invoice can become a medicine-book entry and a VAT-coded expense in one go. Ask Farmer Joe drafts entries and you confirm them, so nothing is filed or posted without your tap. Records save on the phone and sync when signal returns.

Its whitepaper says FarmHQ is appointed as the farm's CTS agent and reports cattle movements to BCMS, while the LIS connection waits on the LIS migration, and lists Bluetooth EID wand and weigh-scale connections as live in the beta. Plans on its pricing page are Family Farm £29.99, Commercial Farm £49.99 and Country Estate £69.99 a month, set by herd size and invoice volume, plus a free Trial Farm.

Check before you buy: it is in beta, no farm has run it for a full year, it has no crop records, it is not on HMRC's software list, and MTD filing follows in 2027. See our FarmHQ and Herdwatch comparison.

2. Herdwatch: cattle and sheep records with Red Tractor reports

Herdwatch is a livestock records app for cattle, dairy, sheep and pasture, and it is the closest match to FarmHQ on the compliance side. Its UK cattle page says you can register calves and movements with BCMS, ScotEID and NIFAIS, enter records without signal and sync later, connect EID tag readers and weigh heads, and generate reports for Red Tractor and other assurance inspections. It tracks withdrawal periods and includes an AI assistant called Herdi.

FarmHQ and Herdwatch compared: FarmHQ joins records and money but is in beta, Herdwatch covers livestock records offline
FarmHQ publishes this list, so weigh its own entry with care and check each point with the supplier.

Its UK home page lists a free version that downloads your animals and handles limited tasks, and a 30-day free trial of the full app. Paid prices are by quote. Support is Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

Check before you buy: the pages we read do not describe bookkeeping, VAT or invoicing, so you need separate accounts software and the vet invoice is typed twice. The home page names BCMS, ScotEID and NIFAIS but not LIS, so ask how English sheep movements are handled. Our Herdwatch alternatives guide goes deeper.

3. MyFarmWorks: Shearwell's records app with a published price

MyFarmWorks is a cattle and sheep records app made by Shearwell Data, which also sells ear tags, EID readers and weigh heads. Its site describes it as farmer-owned software with over 25 years of experience. Its FAQ says it communicates with BCMS, ScotEID, EID Cymru and LIS, so it can send movements and make cattle passport applications.

Recording needs no signal and syncs when you are back online. The medicine log scans a bar or QR code and works out withdrawal periods. Its pricing page lists Starter at £20 a month or £200 a year and Pro at £30 a month or £300 a year, both before VAT, with no per-animal charge and a free one-month trial. Drafting is in Pro. Its compatibility page lists Shearwell's stick reader, X6 Stock Recorder, ShearWeigh weigh head and race readers.

Check before you buy: the pages we read do not describe bookkeeping, VAT or MTD, and the listed hardware is Shearwell's own. Ask whether your reader works and which plan you need for your nation.

4. Landmark Systems: farm accounts and livestock records from one supplier

Landmark Systems is a UK farm and estate software supplier that sells both accounts and livestock records, as separate products. Its site lists accounting and payroll (KEYPrime, KEYinfinity and KEY2Payroll), crop and land software, property software and a livestock tool called LivestockData. Its accounting page says all its accounting and payroll products are HMRC recognised and compatible with Making Tax Digital.

The LivestockData page describes a cattle and sheep management tool that stores breeding, health and performance records, tracks weights and fertility, and helps you comply with movement reporting and health schemes. It lists no prices and invites you to ask for a demo.

Check before you buy: the LivestockData page does not name BCMS, LIS, Red Tractor, EID readers, a mobile app or offline use, so ask for each in writing. The accounts and the animal records are separate products, so the double entry remains. Our farm accounting software guide compares the accounts side.

5. AgriWebb: farm records by mob or by individual animal

AgriWebb is a livestock management app that records animals by mob or individually, with a farm map. Its UK page describes grazing and task tools, records that show withholding and days empty, and a trial that works offline. It says it connects team members, farm hardware and advisers, and links to a partner list.

On government reporting, its help centre lists BCMS, EIDCymru, LIS, Scot-EID, ScotMoves+ and NIFAIS. Your farm must be connected to one of them first, and only Manager or Admin users can submit movements. Pricing is by herd size through a calculator, with Essentials and Performance plans. The two trials, Individual Animal Management and Mob Management, need no credit card.

Check before you buy: the UK page does not mention EID readers or government reporting, and it names no accounting tool, so VAT and MTD sit elsewhere. Ask what your cattle and sheep numbers cost, and which plan includes individual animal records.

6. Breedr: a cattle and sheep app built around weighing

Breedr is a livestock app for cattle and sheep that centres on individual animal weights and growth. Its livestock app page says Crush Mode connects to weigh scales and EID readers over Bluetooth, medicines are scanned into a virtual cabinet with withdrawal alerts, and you can log births, deaths and movements and submit them to BCMS or ScotMoves. Data can be captured offline, and it produces printable inspection reports. It runs in a browser and on iOS and Android.

Its pricing page says cost depends on the number of animals, through a calculator, with a quote above 2,000 animals. The plan covers multiple holdings, one business and unlimited users, and the trial lasts 30 days, with a card added at the start.

Check before you buy: the figure for your herd did not show in the text we read, so ask for it. Its movements help page says you link to BCMS or ScotEID, and it does not describe sheep movements. The pages we read do not describe bookkeeping, VAT or MTD.

7. Datamars Livestock: software that goes with Tru-Test hardware

Datamars Livestock is a web app, paired with the Datamars Pro mobile app, for farms using Tru-Test weigh scales and EID readers. Datamars' support page says both use one account and show animal and farm data in one place. It lists compatible Tru-Test weigh scale indicators and EID readers, Active Tag, walk-over weighing, a dairy drafter and fence monitoring.

Its setup page says the farm owner invites users and sets their permissions, and animal groups are created for herds or mobs. The Datamars Pro App Store listing says it can send registrations and movements to national traceability programmes, and names NAIT in New Zealand and NLIS in Australia.

Check before you buy: no UK scheme is named on the pages we read, and they do not describe offline use, prices, a medicine book or accounts. It suits a farm that already owns Tru-Test kit and wants the weights in a record. For statutory reporting, ask Datamars what it does in the UK.

8. Figured: farm budgets and forecasts, not animal records

Figured is farm financial management software for planning, budgeting, forecasting and reporting. Its UK page describes budgets, cash-flow forecasts, scenarios up to ten years ahead, and reports of income per hectare, per tonne of harvest, per litre of milk and per kilogram of livestock. It names farmers, accountants and advisers, and bankers as users. Its US-facing page says it does not replace your accounting software and pulls live data from Xero or QuickBooks Online.

Its UK pricing page lists Farm Manager at £40 a month for a single farm business, and Multi Farm at £40 plus £40 for each additional farm and £5 for each non-production business, all excluding tax.

Check before you buy: Figured does not describe births, movements, passports or a medicine book, and it does not file anything with HMRC on the pages we read. You still need an accounts package and a records app, so the cost adds up. Our Figured and Xero comparison sets out the sums.

Which one should you choose?

Match the product to the job you need done this season. Whatever you shortlist, ask each supplier to enter one of your awkward records in front of you, and use our bookkeeping software checklist for the questions.

  • Records and money in one app, and you can accept a beta: FarmHQ.
  • Proven cattle and sheep records with Red Tractor reports, and accounts elsewhere: Herdwatch.
  • Records with LIS named, offline use and a published price: MyFarmWorks.
  • Accounts and livestock records from one established supplier: Landmark Systems.
  • Records by mob or individual animal, with six reporting bodies listed: AgriWebb.
  • Weighing at the crush with Bluetooth: Breedr or Datamars Livestock.
  • Budgets and forecasts for the bank: Figured.

If you must file Making Tax Digital returns this year, use software on HMRC's software finder, and check our Making Tax Digital thresholds guide to see whether you are caught. A small herd may not need software at all, as our Red Tractor records software guide explains.

What do farmers actually ask?

What is AgTech and what does it mean for a livestock farm?

AgTech means technology made for farming. On a livestock farm it usually means a phone app or software that records births, movements, treatments and weights, reports to the government databases, and keeps the farm's accounts. Some products do records only, some do money only, and a few try both. Check which job each one does before you compare prices.

What are the main AgTech companies for UK livestock farms?

As of October 2026, the eight we list are FarmHQ, Herdwatch, MyFarmWorks from Shearwell Data, Landmark Systems, AgriWebb, Breedr, Datamars Livestock and Figured. They split into records apps, accounts and planning tools, and weighing-led software. FarmHQ publishes the list and is listed first, so read how we ranked them.

Is there software that does livestock compliance and accounting in one app?

FarmHQ is built to do both in one mobile app, but it is in beta and does not file Making Tax Digital returns until 2027. Landmark Systems sells accounts and livestock records from one supplier, as separate products. Most other livestock apps we checked do not describe bookkeeping on their pages, so a separate accounts package is needed.

Which AgTech tools work without signal?

As of October 2026, Herdwatch, MyFarmWorks and Breedr say on their own pages that records can be entered offline and synced later. AgriWebb says its trial works offline. FarmHQ saves records on the phone and syncs when signal returns. Landmark Systems and Datamars Livestock do not describe offline use on the pages we read, so ask them.

Is FarmHQ the right choice for every farm?

No. FarmHQ is in beta, has no crop records, is not on HMRC's software list and does not file Making Tax Digital returns until 2027. No farm has run it for a full year. If you need filing now, crop records or a long track record, use an established product from this list or HMRC's software finder.

What should I check before paying for farm software?

Ask which databases it reports to for your nation, whether it works offline in your worst field, and whether the medicine book holds product, batch, dose, withdrawal period and animal. Ask what the price becomes after any trial or offer, how you export your records, whether your reader works, and who your accountant will log in as.
